THE Nationality and Travel Documents Department has opened a temporary office for issuing smart ID card to Qataris at the Qatar National Olympic Committee (QNOC) headquarters.
QNOC secretary general Sheikh Saud bin Abdul Rahman al-Thani, who inaugurated the office, thanked the Ministry of Interior for providing the facility.
The department’s director, Lt Col Abdullah Saa’d al-Buainain, said the initiative comes under the plan of the ministry to make this service available at the premises of various organisations in the country.
The office is to function for two weeks before shifting to the headquarters of Kahramaa. After summer, the office would be opened in various commercial centres like City Center, Villaggio and Landmark.
Lt Col al-Buainain urged Qatari nationals to utilise this facility. He said the new Smart ID card could also be used for several purposes.
Issuance, renewal or cancellation of residence permit, re-activation of residence permit, transferring a residence permit from one passport to another one, separation of dependents from passport, sponsorship transfer, issuance of new born babies’ residence permit or exit permit and visa in case of prior permission are among them.
Payment of traffic fines, renewal of driving licence, and issuance of a new one instead of damaged or lost driving licence are some of other advantages of the Smart ID card in addition to other services rendered by the e-government system.
The new smart ID can be also used at E-gates at airports and to move between GCC countries.
Ministry of Interior’s IT Department assistant director Lt Col Abdurahman al-Maliki, Travel Documents Section head Major Mohamed Majid al-Sulaiti, and directors of various departments at QNOC attended the ceremony.
