Number of building permits increased by 111% in June

The number of building permits issued by all municipalities of the State in June 2021 showed a general increase of 111% when compared to those issued in the previous month, according to data released by the Planning and Statistics Authority (PSA).

The PSA said that the increase was noted in all of the municipalities: Al Shammal (333%), Al Da'ayen (180%), Um Salal (156%), Al Khor (107%), Al Wakrah (102%), Al Rayyan (101%), Al Doha (76%), Al Sheehaniya (33%).

According to their geographical distribution, the municipality of Al Rayyan comes at the top of the municipalities where the number of building permits issued was 219 permits, i.e. 30% of the total issued permits, while the municipality of Al Da'ayen came in second place with 151 permits, i.e. 21%, followed by Al Wakrah municipality of with 131 permits, i.e.18%, then municipality of Al Doha with 127 permits, i.e.17%. The rest of the municipalities were as follows: Umm Salal 46 permits, Al Khor 31 permits, Al Sheehaniya 16 permits, and finally Al Shammal 13 permits.

In terms of type of permits issued, data indicates that the new building permits (residential and non-residential) constitutes 42% (310 permits) of the total building permits issued during the month of June 2021, while the percentage of additions permits constituted 55% (400 permits), and finally fencing permits with 3% (24 permits).

By analyzing new residential buildings permits data, villas' top the list, accounting for 75% (189 permits) of all new residential buildings permits, followed by dwellings of housing loan permits by 17% (43 permits) and apartments buildings by 6% (16 permits).

On the other hand, commercial buildings were found to be in the forefront of non-residential building permits with 47% (28 permits), followed by industrial buildings e.g., workshops and factories with 24% (14 permits), then governmental buildings with 17% (10 permits).

In terms of the number of certificates, the increase was clearly noted in all of the municipalities: Al Shammal (200%), Al Da'ayen (138%), Al Khor (80%), Al Doha (70%), Al Sheehaniya (44%), Al Rayyan (39%), Al Wakrah (39%), Um Slal (37%).

Building permits and building completion certificates data is of particular importance as it is considered an indicator for the performance of the construction sector which in turn occupies a significant position in the national economy.
