A new law to regulate Haj and Umrah is under preparation, the Minister of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs H E Dr Ghaith bin Mubarak Al Kuwari has said. The Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs is preparing the draft law, the Minister said, adding that the draft was expected to be ready by next year. Al Kuwari was speaking in Lakom Al Karar - The Decision is Yours - a televised discussion programme broadcast live on Qatar TV on Saturday night. The programme was produced by the Qatar Foundation. He pointed out that the Haj and Umrah tariffs for this year set by the Haj and Umrah Department at the Ministry were lower compared to that of last year. The Department has given the Haj and Umrah contractors (tour operators) the option to cut the prices further if they want to. The Minister added that available information had indicated that some contractors had already cut their prices below the level set by the Department. The Minister said the new organisational structure of the Ministry—adopted a year ago— included the Haj and Umrah Department. There is a consultative committee under the Department that has representative from various ministries. He said there were no plans to appoint Qatari Imams in the mosques on a full-time basis. http://thepeninsulaqatar.com/qatar/127325-new-law-to-regulate-haj-and-umrah.html
