The Ministry of Culture, Arts and Heritage and the Arab Democracy Foundation (ADF) will launch the first edition of the Doha Festival of Creativity and Freedom tomorrow. The four-day event is being held under the patronage of H H Sheikha Mozah bint Nasser Al Missned. “The festival aims to promote the ideas of democracy and citizenship values in the region,” said Mohsen Marzouk, Secretary General, ADF. “It will feature all the aspects of art, including music, painting, films, exhibition, lectures, workshops and many other events. This will help to spur the creativity of the artists,” he told The Peninsula. The festival aims to raise awareness about democracy and promote it in the region. “This is the first edition of the event, which we aim to conduct once in two years. We want this to be a kind of laboratory where new ideas are evolved and developed as to how democracy and art can support each other. We want to have new partnerships in helping new artists to come into the forefront and show new concepts that are developed. We want the festival to be a regular event.” “The idea was conceived by ADF and adapted by the ministry,” said Dr Marzook Basher Binmarzookof the Ministry of Culture, Arts and Heritage. “It is an initiative to get involved with the public and is a beginning for future initiatives.” The event is not a replacement for the Doha Cultural Festival, which was cancelled this year due to the Israeli military aggression in Gaza. http://thepeninsulaqatar.com/Display_news.asp?section=Local_News&subsection=Qatar+News&month=April2009&file=Local_News200904082836.xml
