The Capital Security Department (Capital Police) has opened a new office to receive cases of violence against women and children. The initiative is part of the Ministry of Interior’s (MoI) measures to provide appropriate care to members of the society, especially the vulnerable segment, women and children. Colonel Nasser Al Nuaimi, Director of the Capital Police, Dr Saadoon Rashid, expert at the Qatar Foundation for Combating Human Trafficking and several officials from MOI attended the inauguration ceremony on Tuesday. Al Nuaimi noted that his department had carried out such initiative in compliance with the directives of the Minister of Interior Affairs, who has provided the management with full support. “The section has been equipped with the necessary facilities so as to provide visitors with mental relaxation and make them feel at home. The section has a big TV in the reception hall, a library with educational books and brochures, which include legal and social awareness information related to violation against women and children,” said the official. Four highly qualified female officers with a vast experience in dealing with the public have been appointed to serve as investigators in the office. For cases that require medical assistance, the department will coordinate with the psychiatry department of the MoI’s Medical Services Department and Hamad Medical Corporation. Similarly, the office will coordinate with Qatar Foundation for Protecting Women and Children for following up the lawsuits filed by victims. Dr Sadoon hailed the initiative and said it would promote respect for the rights of women and children. http://thepeninsulaqatar.com/Display_news.asp?section=Local_News&subsection=Qatar+News&month=March2009&file=Local_News200903261599.xml
