Virginia Commonwealth University in Qatar (VCUQ) has invited designers, web developers and e-marketers to discuss Design, Content and Creativity at a web and digital experts community meet-up on November 19. The event, to be held with prior registration, starts at 10.30am. “Refresh Qatar”, a bi-annual networking event held at the VCUQatar building in Education City, is intended to cultivate and promote the local expertise of creative and technical experts who work in Doha. The event will feature four speakers: a designer, a branding expert, an entrepreneur and an Arabic blogger, who will address a wide range of topics including user-interface design, the impact of culture on the branding of an organisation, the process of creative design for non-designers and writing for the web. Multi-disciplinary designer and VCUQatar Prof Michael Hersrud will speak about the recent influence of technology, devices and standards on front-end design and how they impact the next-generation of websites. Managing director of design agency Fitch Middle-East Olivier Auroy will explain why local culture impacts global innovation and how brands in Qatar and the Gulf can contribute to improve our daily lives. The topic of how to manage a successful web design project will be tackled by Abraham Kamarck, entrepreneur and co-founder of start-up Doha-Delivery.com. Finally, Ammar Mohamed, a Qatari new-media expert at Al Jazeera News, will discuss blogging and how content on websites and social media can improve the visibility of a person, company or organisation. Event organiser Balal Khan said: “Refresh meet-ups are fast-paced and fun, where we discuss anything from design to technology and everything in-between”. He added: “We hope to bring the Qatar web community together to talk business, make friends, and strengthen the community in the process. We believe that by promoting discussion with the best minds in the business we can help to raise the bar when it comes to design, development and online marketing in Qatar.” The November meet-up is the third in a series of events that alternate between design and technology.
