Lieutenant Colonel Dr. Abdullah Zayed Al Sahli, Head of the National Address Section in Public Security, Ministry of Interior, has said that if any person is stuck abroad outside of Qatar due to the current coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak or any legitimate reason (studying abroad or having medical treatment, etc.), and is unable to register the National Address before the deadline expires on 26 July 2020, will be dealt with leniently. This means that if they can provide proof of being abroad with a legitimate reason, their cases will be considered, according to the Al Raya newspaper.

Lieutenant Colonel Dr. Abdullah pointed out that more than 1.5 million people have registered with the national address programme so far, explaining that more than 70% of citizens have registered their national address.

He said that the Ministry of Interior last month provided facilitation to members of the community so domestic workers could register easily, through the approval of (the applicant's authorisation) where the applicant submits the application on behalf of the worker to the competent authorities after filling out the ad hoc form and signed by the worker.

He reiterated his call to all citizens, residents and legal persons who have not yet registered to speed up registration, pointing out that the required data are the housing address, fixed and mobile telephone number, e-mail address, employer address for government and private sector workers, and permanent address abroad, if any. He pointed out that under-18 son is automatically registered when the father registers his data.

What is the National Address Law

According to the Law No. 24 of 2017 on the National Address, every citizen and resident in the country is obliged to register a permanent national address with the official authorities in Qatar through the Metrash 2 before 26 July 2020, otherwise they will have to pay a fine. The law was issued for keeping up with the economic and social developments, the legislative renaissance and the advanced security services witnessed by Qatar.

  • Continue to develop and modernise the state's infrastructure
  • Provide fast and reliable services to all segments of society including citizens and residents as well as public and private sector
