Nasser Bin Khaled Holding (NBK), Qatar’s leading business conglomerate, recently hosted local students from a number of different universities in Doha (Qatar University, Carnegie Mellon University, George Town and London Academy) as part of the ‘Job Shadow Day’ program organized by INJAZ-Qatar. The students spent the day at various NBK sites, gaining first-hand experience from employees across key departments, who provided on-site mentoring and shared knowledge for students to expand their understanding of the skills required for rewarding corporate careers.
NBK, through its diverse business offerings, helped the students gain an overview on the operations of some of the key sectors that contribute to the growth and development of Qatar including automotive, construction, real estate, luxury and fashion, health care, energy and industry, and travel and tourism, amongst others. During the course of the day, the students had the opportunity to interact with skilled professionals who shared their insights into Qatar’s dynamic business environment and engaged in discussions to develop innovative personal strategies for continued success.
NBK’s involvement in the program reflects its importance and the key role it plays in enhancing the student’s career opportunities and enriching their overall experience, by introducing fundamental concepts such as career planning and counseling, understanding of the business environment, industry best practices and development of key skills.
Sheikh Nawaf Bin Nasser, Chairman and CEO of NBK Holding said, “This initiative is an invaluable learning experience for shaping the leaders of tomorrow, merging classroom learning with real-world knowledge that helps young minds gain valuable exposure to career fields of interest. By sharing expertise and knowledge about work and careers, we serve as a mentor for students and assist them in making better informed career decisions that allow them to confidently face workplace challenges for overall progress. As responsible corporates, it is our duty to prepare a properly trained and qualified future workforce who will further strengthen Qatar’s positioning on the world map”.
He further added, “Our association with the program furthers our commitment to support the development of a knowledge-backed economy in Qatar in line with the 2030 National Vision and cultivate responsible entrepreneurial behaviours in young students for the betterment of our people and our society.”
The ‘Job Shadow Day’ primarily focuses on developing students' work-readiness skills that prepare them for the modern world of work. The program is designed to introduce students to careers through one-day, on-site orientations for a real-world experience, enhanced by a variety of classroom preparatory and follow-up learning activities.
Following participation in the program, students will be able to identify and demonstrate the skills needed to research, get and keep a job, and develop innovative personal strategies to pursue lifelong learning and fulfilling career opportunities.
