A live performance from the High School Musical touring show, hosted by Qatar Foundation at Education City’s Ceremonial Court on Saturday, attracted a crowd of thousands. The audience, made up of both the young and old, sang and danced along to the two-hour live spectacle that included everyone’s favourite songs from the trilogy of phenomenally successful High School movies. “I loved the singing and dancing and all the moves they did. I liked the lights that made the screen change colours,” said seven-year-old Kyra Gibeily said. Qatar Foundation brought the show to Doha as part of its commitment to support the arts in all forms and make them accessible to and enjoyable for everyone, given that encouraging creativity is another way of unlocking human potential. “The great success of this show - and to see so many families and friends joining in song and dance - emphasises the special place that art and theatre can have in all communities,” Qatar Foundation’s events manager Buthaina Derham said. The event was the first of two family-orientated live musical shows that Qatar Foundation has committed to host this winter. On January 9, the MENA premiere of Barney’s Magical Musical Castle, a live stage show, will take place at Education City’s Ceremonial Court. Featuring the famous “backyard gang”, the show is set in a mediaeval castle and is a musical fantasy adventure featuring 20 sing-along tunes. Targeted at children and families, Barney’s Musical Castle Show will incorporate elements of the popular television series, Barney & Friends, an edutainment show. Tickets are available at the Recreation Centre at Qatar Foundation, Virgin Megastores in the Villagio, the Sheraton Doha and Souq Waqif. http://gulf-times.com/site/topics/article.asp?cu_no=2&item_no=333117&version=1&template_id=36&parent_id=16
