Municipalities ready for intensive inspection of food establishments ahead of Ramadan

Municipalities have affirmed their readiness to inspect food establishments during the holy month of Ramadan, as they prepared a comprehensive action plan to intensify campaigns and inspection tours, ensure health requirements are met by all food establishments and their workers. They have also stressed their commitment to applying precautionary measures and measures in light of the challenges imposed by the Coronavirus (COVID-19).

The work plan includes inspection dates and mechanisms. Campaigns on food establishments have been intensified since April 1, including daily inspection of restaurants, cafeterias, butcheries, commercial complexes, societies, and centers, to ensure the safety of products offered for sale and special offers for some food commodities, storage methods, as well as the inspection of shops selling meat, fish, poultry, consumer complexes, and pastry shops.

The work timings during Ramadan will be in two shifts (morning and evening periods), and the work of veterinary inspectors in slaughterhouses will be from 5 am to 4 pm.

Food inspectors and veterinarians will direct and alert all kinds of food establishments to apply health requirements in handling food and to observe all precautionary measures related to the Coronavirus.

All slaughterhouses, including the new Al Sheehaniya Slaughterhouse, will begin their activities with the beginning of the subsidized sheep initiative in preparation for the blessed month of Ramadan, provided that the working hours are daily from 5 am to 4 pm.

Veterinarians will be available in all civil and commercial slaughterhouses and central fish markets to ensure veterinary examination of all slaughtered sheep and fish in these facilities.

A practical plan has also been prepared for inspecting food establishments and the distribution of specialized staff of inspectors and veterinarians to carry out them at different time periods during the day, taking into account the nature of the commercial activity of each facility and the time period for its business.
