Thanks to Qatar’s rising wealth, the average monthly salary has gone up by more than 20 percent in the past 15 months.
The average was QR10,000 ($2,746) for men in the second quarter of this year and QR8,000 for women, figures released yesterday by the Ministry of Development Planning and Statistics show.
The average for men and women was QR7,401 by 2011-end. It has risen despite an equally high rise in the economically active population in the period under review (Q2 of 2013).
Qataris constituted barely 10 percent of the 1.7 million people in working age groups in the second quarter of 2013. The total population in working age groups was 1.7 million.
Economically active Qataris numbered only 86,000 out of 1.47 million people. Men among them were double the number of women.
Unemployment was quite low, at 0.3 percent, but among the Qataris it was at 1.5 percent, figures reflect.
Most jobless were above 24 since the unemployment rate among people in the 15-24 age group has been negligible, at 0.7 percent, in the first half of this year.
As for women, a large number of those economically inactive (26 percent of the total, including men and women) were housewives.
