Using a seat belt can reduce the risk of serious injury by 50 percent and death by 60 to 70 percent, as most injuries to drivers and passengers are caused by contact with the steering wheel, dashboard, windscreen and the sides and roof of the vehicle. This is the content of a message sent to people by email by the Ministry of Interior (MoI) yesterday. The ministry’s awareness drive aims at inspiring both drivers and passengers to use seat belts for their own safety. The PowerPoint message was prepared by the Public Relations Department as part of its efforts to spread the culture of road safety in the public. The message contains information about using the seat belt, including illustrated safety tips and advice. The PR Department has urged everyone who receives the message to forward it to friends, colleagues and community members. http://www.thepeninsulaqatar.com/Display_news.asp?section=Local_News&subsection=Qatar+News&month=June2009&file=Local_News2009060963757.xml
