The Ministry of Interior held a week long awareness “Drive Safe Campaign” in association with Galfar Al Misnad Co. during 12-18 January 2016. More than 550 drivers and equipment operators took part in the programmes organized in the headquarters of the company in Umm Salal, Shahaniya, Dukhan, Industrial Area, and Noaija.

The awareness programme included lectures on the common mistakes committed during driving and risks followed by them to the drivers and the road users. Referring to the traffic incidents occurred during 2007-2014, the programmes emphasized the importance awareness campaigns in coordination with communities, companies and schools in order to reduce the number of accidents and deaths.

First Lt. Fahad Shoraida Al Abdullah, Awareness Officer at the Traffic spoke on the important elements on road safety. He said that while happening any minor accidents the vehicles should be moved to the nearest parking places whereas the drivers who refuse to move their vehicles will be imposed fines.

He underlined the risks of crossing red signals, importance of driving on stipulated speed, how to drive in roundabouts and near to signals, driving heavy vehicles on right lane, risk of drowsy driving. The lectures were given in English and Hindi to deliver out the information to the audience in their languages.

Galfar Executive Director Mr. Satish G. Pillai emphasized we remain continue to work hard towards refreshing the awareness levels among their employees in order to develop a safe driving culture and thereby reducing the accident rates significantly. The management of the company wishes to work with traffic authority to promote such beneficial program for a good cause. Senior management team has presented various education modules to create the awareness among the employees, he added.
