The Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MOCI) and the Ministry of Labour (MOL) have announced that a maximum price has been set for the recruitment of domestic workers, as part of joint efforts to combat the unjustified rise in the costs of recruiting domestic workers, to control the domestic labour market and deter monopolistic practices.

The price cap on the recruitment of domestic workers shall be set as follows:

  1. Indonesia: QR 17,000
  2. Sri Lanka: QR 16,000
  3. Philippines: QR 15,000
  4. Bangladesh: QR 14,000
  5. India: QR 14,000
  6. Kenya: QR 9,000
  7. Ethiopia: QR 9,000

All competent authorities, each within their own jurisdiction, shall implement this decision which shall come into force from the day following the date of its publication in the Official Gazette.

The MOCI and MOL urge all citizens and residents to report any abuses or violations committed by the recruitment offices of domestic workers, or their failure to implement the decision to set a maximum price for the recruitment of domestic workers.
