As for other commodities themselves, the prices may vary from one supermarket to the other.
The clarification through the Tweet came in response to queries received from different consumers about price discrepancy between supermarkets and the role of the Ministry in controlling the prices.
“We would like to clarify that the Ministry sets the maximum prices for vegetables, fruits and fish, in addition to other basic commodities. As for the rest of the other commodities, their prices may vary from one outlet to the other.“
The Ministry also advised consumers to compare prices and the quality of the goods between different outlets and then take the right purchasing decision.
The prices for basic commodities like vegetables, fruits and fish can be accessed on MoCI's website here.
The Ministry also urged consumers to report any violations and recommendations through their call centre by dialling 16001.
