The Public Parks Department of the Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME) has started inaugurating chess playgrounds in public parks, in cooperation with the Qatar Chess Federation yesterday with the first chess playground in the new Onaiza Park, according to QNA.
The chess playground is made from eco-friendly materials and will draw in more people to the parks especially now that the weather in Qatar is becoming cooler.
This project is the first of its kind in Qatar and it's aim is to change the concept of the playing grounds at parks to include games that stimulate the mind and thoughts in addition to entertainment. The chess playgrounds will help improve the mental abilities of children, along with giving an opportunity for the whole family to benefit and enjoy.
The project comes in line with Qatar National Vision 2030, and coincides with the upcoming celebrations of Qatar National Day 2019.
