Missing teacher feared dead in Doha

A female British teacher is feared dead after a body was found in Qatar, days after she was reported missing Lauren Patterson was last seen in the early hours of Saturday after she had returned to Doha where she was working as a teacher. She had been in the UK for her grandmother’s funeral. The 24-year-old was feared dead after a body was found on Monday evening and her family and boyfriend posted messages in tribute to her. Her mother Alison Patterson was thought to be on her way to Doha on Monday to help police formally identify her body. She posted a message on Facebook: "Thank you so much to everyone for all their wonderful words about Lauren. She was a truly remarkable girl my rock always there for everyone. I know she's in heaven now in her Daddy's arms." The message is believed to refer to her late father Stuart. Miss Patterson’s family and her boyfriend James Grima, from Malta, posted an appeal on the social networking site on Saturday after she had been missing for more than 40 hours. He later posted another message. He wrote: "I can't believe that it had to end this way Lauren, I really don't. “I was so happy that I had finally found someone that could change my life so much, and in such a positive way too - Rest In Peace babe, I will always look up at the sky cause you always were the brightest star and always will be." Mr Grima also added: “I know we were not together for a very long time babe, but during this short period you made me realise that there is still hope out there. "It was nice to love someone so much and be loved so much in return, and I was so looking forward to plan when we could be together as we had talked about recently. "I can't believe that it had to end this way Lauren, I really don't. I was so happy that I had finally found someone that could change my life so much, and in such a positive way too. "I love you so so so much Lauren, I am never ever going to forget you and you will always have a place in my heart as you truly were the most amazing and beautiful person ever.” Doha police said they could not confirm whether Miss Patterson had died, what had happened to her or the progress of their investigation. It was reported last night that friends said Miss Patterson had been at the nightclub with two men, one of whom was an ex-boyfriend, before she disappeared. A friend said the ex-boyfriend had since gone to Saudi Arabia and Doha police had taken the other man, who had a bruised lip, in for questioning but he was then released. Friends said she sent a text message to say she had been taken to the wrong house after she left the nightclub, and others suggested she may have been killed. One wrote on Twitter: "Lauren was raped and brutally murdered. "Her body was found in the dumpsters behind La Cigale." Miss Patterson, originally from Chislehurst in south east London, was working at the Newton British School in the Qatari capital. She is believed to be a former pupil at Langley Park School for Girls in Beckenham, She was last seen outside the five star La Cigale Hotel at around 1.20am on Saturday. She had been based in Doha where she was teaching at a primary school. A spokesman for the Foreign Office said: "We are aware of a British national, Lauren Patterson, reported missing in Qatar. "We are providing the family with consular assistance."
