The most beautiful day in the universe, Miss Universe 2018, was held this morning (December 17) in Bangkok, Thailand and out of 94 candidates from countries all over the world, one name was proclaimed the most beautiful—The Philippines' Catriona Gray.
During the final round, the 24-year-old Filipina delegate was asked by host Steve Harvey this question:
"What is the most important lesson you’ve learned in your life and how would you apply it to your time as Miss Universe?"
With all confidence, the then Ms. Philippines answered (in verbatim):
“I work a lot in the slums of Tondo, Manila and life there is very… it’s poor and it’s very sad and I always taught myself to look for the beauty in it, to look in the beauty in the faces of the children and to be grateful and I would bring this aspect as a Miss Universe to see situations with a silver lining and to assess where I could give something, where I could provide something as a spokesperson.”
With South Africa and Venezuela claiming the 1st and 2nd runner up spots respectively, the iconic crown was passed by Miss Universe 2017 Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters.
The last time that The Philippines won the prestigious crown was back in 2015 when Harvey mixed up the final announcement between the then-Filipina (Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach) and Colombian delegates.
