Ministry plans to develop five family beaches

Families here will have more option for outing with opening of more beaches, soon. The Ministry of Municipality and Urban Planning announced the plan to develop five public beaches in different parts of Qatar for families. The first phases of most of these projects have already been completed. The newly planned beaches are planned at, Lekhrej, Simaisima, Al Wakra and Fuwairit. The projects follow the Farkhiya beach plan announced recently. The first phase of the Lekhrej beach project at Umm Bab includes establishment of washrooms, guard rooms, generator rooms and water tanks. The second phase will include installation of 900m long iron fence around the area. It will have two gates and the facilities inside will include football and volley ball grounds, wooden beach umbrellas for shading and observation towers for security and life guards. The Simaisima beach project includes three phases of development, with the first phase for basic amenities already being completed. The second phase will starting next month will see installation of fence, laying of clean sand for the play grounds, observation towers and shading. The first and second stage of the Al Wakra beach will be completed immediately as fist stage has been completed in May 2010. “We are coordinating with Ashghal to prepare Fuwairit beach, complete with shaded areas, barbecuing facilities, clean fresh water and wash rooms apart from planting a number of date-palms. The project will be completed in 12 to 18 months,” said Jabir Ali Al Nuaimi, director of Al Shamal Municipality. “The locations were chosen by studying family outing trends and we confirm that these places have good security and are safe,” said Hamad Al Rusaimi, Chairman of beaches observation of municipalities. “These facilities will be provided with electricity, clean water and facilities for women and guards, shading to protect against sun as well as places for barbecues. Besides, there will be playgrounds for children in different ages; we will build high observation places for monitoring and guaranteeing safety. The projects will be carried out immediately by Ashghal,” he said. Once completed, the project will be handed over to respective municipalities who will be in charge of cleanliness, security and maintenance of the beaches apart from advising visitors on safety precaution. The Peninsula
