Ministry organises anti-drug campaign

Qatar joined the world in observing World Drugs Prevention Day yesterday with an exhibition organized by the Permanent Committee on Drugs and Alcohol Affairs of the Ministry of Interior. Staff Major-General Saad bin Jassem Al Khulaifi, Director of General Security, formally opened the exhibition at the Villaggio mall. A dozen booths representing various agencies in Qatar concerned with health and prevention of drug use took part in the exhibition. Drugs and Alcohols Committee, Reformatory and Penalty Institutions Department, National Health Authority, Eid Charity, Al Adeid, and Arab Federation for Voluntary Activity are some of the organizations that took part in the activity. The various booths exhibited informative posters, banners and brochures aimed at raising public awareness of the dangers of using drugs. T-shirts, caps, stickers, ball pens and other materials were also available in the stands. The Drugs and Alcohols Committee's stall offered various materials revolving around the slogan 'Prevention is Protection'. Also on display were products like miniature dhows made by inmates at the Reformatory and Penalty Institutions Department. Other highlights of the exhibition were paintings illustrating Qatari scenery and free medical services. Videos about the successful operations of the Ministry of Interior to curb drug trafficking and drug addiction in the country were also shown to visitors. In particular the videos depicted the Ministry's crackdown on illegal drugs, capture of drug traffickers and recovery of money and contrabands.
