Ministry of Environment and Climate Change rescues dugong

The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change announced in a tweet the rescue of a dugong, or sea cow, in cooperation with Mr. Khalifa Omar Saleh Al-Hamidi and Mr. Ahmed Saad Al-Fayyadh Al-Khalidi, two Qatari environmental activists.

They reported the presence of a dugong in the Khor Al Adaid area. Officials from the ministry immediately took action and transferred it to the Fuwairit area (sea turtles project) where ponds are equipped for raising young turtles.

The Ministry announced the name "Ocean" for the dugong that was rescued, making it the first dugong to be named in the region.

After being assessed and cared for in the care facility, it has been confirmed that Ocean is male, about 1.3 meters long, 26 kg in weight, and estimated to be about two weeks of age.
