Doha, 23 January 2013 – The Qatar Ministry of Culture, Arts and Heritage announced it will join in the celebrations of the 2013 National Sport Day, to be held on February 12th, with a programme of sport activities. This decision reflects the Ministry’s belief in the importance of sports, and the constant efforts to make sports a part of the community culture as a fundamental approach for the nation development. The proposed programme, whose details will be announced soon, will include sport competitions held in a number of youth centres affiliated to the Ministry, in addition to sport matches between different Ministry departments. A special programme will also be available for ladies. The decision to form a Sport Day activities committee was taken by HE Dr Hamad bin Abdulaziz Al Kuwari, Minister of Culture, Arts and Heritage. The committee is headed by Mr Abdul Razak bin Abdullah Al Kuwari, Director of Youth Centres, and includes Mr Jaber bin Saeed Hamidi, Director of Administrative and Financial Affairs, Mr Khalifa bin Abdulrahman Al-Hail, Head of Public Relations and Communications, Mr Abdul Rahman bin Mohammed Al Hajri, Director of Activities and Youth Events, and Mr Mohamed Issa Al Jaber, representing the Management of Culture. The National Sport Day, which enhances the objectives of the Qatar National Vision 2030, is central to the Country’s commitment to sport, in addition to the ‘Schools Olympic Programme’, which encourages schoolchildren to practice sport as an integral part of their daily life.
