The Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MOCI) announced via Twitter on 15 September 2022 the requirement for all shops to provide electronic payment methods to consumers.

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry has issued a circular in coordination with Qatar Central Bank to all establishments to provide electronic payment services without imposing additional fees when using debit or credit cards.

The electronic payment methods to be used are:

• QR Code
• Apple or Google Pay services
• Bank cards

The Ministry promotes the benefits and safety of cashless payment methods in establishments as it avoids issues such as money burglary, counterfeit money, scams, and the like.
