The Ministry of Information and Communications Technology has invited digital content developers under 30 to apply for the World Summit Youth Award, a global contest that brings together young developers and digital entrepreneurs who use the Internet and mobile technology to put the UN Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) into action and make a difference.

Young entrepreneurs can register for the award and demonstrate how they plan to take action on the MDGs. The award promotes best practices in eContent and new media, demonstrates young people’s potential to create outstanding digital content and serves as a platform for people from all UN member states to work together to put MDGs into action.

“The award is a unique platform to demonstrate the best Qatari digital content in a global arena and be introduced to the best electronic content from around the world, as well as network with experts and speakers.

“I am delighted to invite digital content developers to seize the opportunity and compete with their unique digital entries,” said Reem Al Mansoori, Executive Director, ICT & Society, at the ministry.

The entry can be a website to connect like-minded activists, a tablet application offering access to free education material or a blog raising awareness about gender equality. There are hundreds of digital projects that have the power to make the world a better place.

The award has six categories this year: Fighting poverty, hunger and disease; Education for all; Power to women; Create your culture; Go green; and Pursue truth.

Digital content developers — individuals or teams — can submit projects until June 15.

Winners will be announced in August, and then invited to the Winners’ Event where they will the unique opportunity to present their projects on an international stage, meet other engaged people, representatives of governments, NGOs, the UN, entrepreneurs and business leaders; share inspiration, ideas, and initiatives with people from around the globe; be presented and promoted through the award network; become part of a vibrant community for young people taking action on MDGs

ICT & Society is looking forward to active participation from digital content developers to submit their best productions and compete in all categories.

The award is organised by International Centre for New Media, a not-for-profit entity based in Salzburg, Austria. To submit entry and for details, visit www.youthaward.org ###
