Ministry asks employers to open bank accounts for their domestic workers

The Ministry of Administrative Development, Labor and Social Affairs (MADLSA) has called on all employers to open bank accounts for their domestic workers, out of the State of Qatars keenness to provide banking services to all sectors of society, including domestic workers, and the Qatar Central Banks (QCB) circular regarding opening accounts and banking services for domestic workers.

The Ministry said in a statement, that the opening of bank accounts will be free of charge and will not require any money and without a minimum balance, through banking applications, calling on employers to educate workers on how to use the application to conduct banking operations.

The Ministry indicated that one of the most prominent electronic banking services is the easy transfer of workers salaries to their accounts, as this is consistent with the wage protection system, the ability to transfer money electronically, pay expenses, use the card for purchases and make withdrawals from ATMs by (the domestic worker). Banks are keen to provide these electronic services in safe and secure ways that protect customer data and money.

The Ministry noted that the workers card will be sent by mail to the employer's home without the need to visit the branch, out of concern to provide safety and adhere to the instructions of the Ministry of Public Health, and as a confirmation of the States efforts to preserve the health of all during the current crisis.

The circular issued by Qatar Central Bank (QCB) indicates that the employer can cancel the workers bank card immediately upon the end of the contract period between them, and liquidate the remaining balance on the card for the benefit of the worker, and provides for the provision of necessary instructions for domestic workers in several ways and languages, especially regarding how to use the services Electronic banking services to avoid any bank card fraud.
