A report by The Peninsula has mentioned that Dr. Mohammed bin Saif Al Kuwari, Vice-Chairman of the National Human Rights Committee (NHRC) said on Qatar Radio that "the introduction and implementation of a non-discriminatory minimum wage by Qatar’s government has helped improve the standards of living of workers and their families."

He continued "during our interaction with workers; we received very positive feedback about the benefit of the minimum wage."

The new minimum wage for all workers started on 20 March 2021. This is as per Law No. (17) of 2020 regarding setting the minimum wage for workers and domestic workers. In this context, all companies must comply with the minimum wage of 1,000 Qatari riyals per month and revise the employment contracts accordingly. In the event that the employer does not provide adequate housing or food for the worker or employee, the minimum housing allowance per month is 500 Qatari riyals, and the minimum food allowance per month is 300 Qatari riyals.

“During my visit to labour camps as NHRC Vice-Chairman, I received very positive feedback from workers about their situation in Qatar. They told me that the money they earned in Qatar helped them improve their social status in Qatar and in their home country,” he added.

Dr. Mohammed bin Saif Al Kuwari also said workers were provided suitable accommodations to lead a happy life. "All the facilities and necessities of life were being provided inside the labour accommodation complexes. To safeguard the workers' rights, a Labor Dispute Settlement Committee was set up at the Ministry of Labour to solve their cases on a fast track basis within a week or two".

The Wage Protection System (WPH) makes sure that the workers receive salaries on time, and under strict monitoring by the concerned authorities.
