The Gulf Times manages to amaze me yet again.
Take a look at this article
ONLY 24 Qatari families (0.1% of the total) had monthly expenditure of less than QR5,000 last year compared with 315 (1.3%) in 2001, official statistics show.
The number of expatriate families spending less than QR5,000 a month stood at 8,837 (13.6%) last year compared with 15,569 (25.6%) in 2001, according to the Income & Expenditure Families’ Survey released by Qatar Statistics Authority.
Qatari families with monthly expenditure in excess of QR50,000 last year numbered 6,201 (21.2%). In 2001, their number stood at 1,657 (6.6%).
However, only 915 expatriate families (1.4%) had monthly spending in excess of QR50,000 last year. In 2001, their number was 61 (0.1%).
The number of Qatari and expatriate families with monthly expenditure between QR5,000 and QR50,000 is as follows, with 2001 figures in brackets:
QR5,000-10,000: Qataris – 683 (3,867), expatriates – 22,848 (27,108)
QR10,000-20,000: Qataris – 5,868 (10,195), expatriates – 22,492 (14,165)
QR20,000-30,000: Qataris – 7,690 (5,726), expatriates – 6,144 (3,053)
QR30,000-40,000: Qataris – 5,432 (2,561), expatriates – 2,434 (733)
QR40,000-50,000: Qataris – 3,360 (804), expatriates – 1,215 (183
The percentages are BOUND to look different in the extremes.
23,153 Qataris were surveyed
45,242 Expats were surveyed
Let's look at the figures with a bit of intelligence. A Qatari 'family' comprises of a father's direct family and usually also includes at least one son working and contributing. That means there is a minimum of TWO incomes entering into a Qatari family.
Add to more expenditure facts. 1) Large families will usually live together in ONE house saving on rent. 2) Qatari's BUILD their own homes and have to pay back a mortgage which equates to rent. However, even then, since 2006 Qataris have been having to spend more on building a home (As much as FOUR TIMES more) due to inflation.
Regardless, simply using their stats, we can see a higher percentage/ration of expats spending less than 5,000 compared to Qataris.
I also want to know what is considered as a method of income. Is it ANY income? Is it your salary only? Was that explained to expats? etc...
Now, less expats (percentage wise) may have more than 50,000 QR to spend, however many expats also get accommodation included in their salaries which Qataris do not. Wait, I tell a lie, we do, do you want to know how much I get? 1,000 QR for accommodation!
*sighs*
