Strong winds will continue to whip up dust and bring the temperature down to 18 degree Celsius today. The dust laden wind will blow across the country, the Meteorological Department warned yesterday. The day will be relatively cold and partly cloudy with haze. Dense fog continued to shroud outskirts of Qatar early morning while heavy winds churned up dust from the desert and the open areas. The dust-laden winds blew across the country for the whole day. Meteorology Department sources said the country’s minimum temperature will fall to 10 degree today, a record low for the season. The north-westerly wind will blow at a speed of 15-25 knots inshore and 20-30 knots offshore reaching 35 knots in some places. The cold spell is expected to prevail until Monday. Strong winds are expected to whip waves 11 to15 feet offshore and 2 to 5 feet inshore. “It will be partly cloudy, but we are not expecting any rain tomorrow”, the Met Department sources said. With the winds blowing, there is hardly any chance of early morning fog tomorrow. Thursday’s fog was the result of a humid weather condition. Airlines sources told The Peninsula that bad weather has affected flight operations at the Doha International Airport. As visibility dropped, many flights were rescheduled on Thursday and Friday, sources said. http://thepeninsulaqatar.com/Display_news.asp?section=Local_News&subsection=Qatar+News&month=January2009&file=Local_News2009010341818.xml
