The Medical Commission that runs mandatory health checks on eatery and barber shop workers and freshly-arrived foreign workers is to open its Industrial Area branch on August. The commission runs medical checks on workers at eateries and barber shops annually to ensure their compliance with civic health and safety rules. The Director of the commission, Dr Ibrahim Al Shaar, told Thursday that for a number of years the periodicity of health checks for eatery and salon workers has been annual. He refuted accusations that as the panel’s system is slow people have been complaining of delays in checks. The commission operates almost throughout the day but people usually turn up in large numbers during morning hours. “If people come at different hours during the day, theirs and our work would be easier, but for some reason everyone likes to rush in morning hours, the result is that there is a huge crowd at a time,” he said. One should remember that the population has been increasing at a rapid pace and the number of eateries and barber shops has also been going up, this is putting pressure on the commission, he added. The new facility is expected to ease crowding at the panel’s premises. Normal timings of the commission are from 7am until 5pm.Ramadan timings are from 9am until 5pm. Source:Qatar Chronicle
