The hi-tech media city being planned in the Lusail area to boost the business of dissemination of news in the region will be opening soon, an official from the ograniser of the first Media Expo 2008 said here yesterday. “Qatar is currently studying ways to make the country the media leader of the Middle East. We will be opening a media city soon in the Lusail area and we will promote it next year,” said Eiz Eldin Abdrahman, executive manager, Conferences and Exhibitions, Dar Al Sharq. Abdrahman said he was happy with the turnout of the four-day media exposition and conference and termed it a success. “We’ve had good feedback from the companies setting up their booths here at the Media Expo 2008; they said their businesses are doing well, and media students from local universities visited to learn more about the media in general,” said Abdrahman. More than 50 organisations, among them acclaimed media conglomerates, publishing and production houses, event management and public relations firms and TV channels, including the Al Jazeera Network, are taking part of the four-day media exposition and conference. Over a dozen participants are from overseas. The event, which was organised by Dar Al Sharq and sponsored by Qatar Telecom (Qtel), q.media and Al Jazeera Network, ends today. Speakers at the event include Turki Bin Abdullah Al Sedairi, Atty. Hani Al Dahla, Abdul Rahman Al Misfer Al Ajmi, and Ayoub Bin Khalid Al Ayoub, PhD. Sedairi is the editor-in-chief of the Riyadh newspaper, chairman of the Saudi Journalist Authority and chairman of the Gulf Journalism Association. Dahla, who obtained a law degree in Damascus University, is the secretary-general of the Arab Human Rights Organisation, Jordan. Ajmi, a journalist and media expert, has extensive experience in the Kuwaiti and Arab written, video and audio media. Ayoub is the secretary-general of the Supreme Consultative Committee to complete application of the Islamic Sharia provisions in Amiri Diwan, State of Kuwait. “This is a positive step on the way of activating the media and advertising sectors on local, Gulf and Arab levels taken by the Dar Al Sharq through its different departments under the roof of this institution. And we are part of this country. Our main goal is to serve our country, bring new technology, new ideas, let this country grow in the right way,” said Abdrahman. http://www.thepeninsulaqatar.com/Display_news.asp?section=Local_News&subsection=Qatar+News&month=December2008&file=Local_News20081217748.xml
