As part of the Ministry of Economy and Commerce’s (MEC) efforts to protect competition and develop the automotive industry, the Ministry announced its initiative to end monopoly and bolster competition in the automobile market in order to create a competitive environment that will give consumers freedom of choice within the following areas: maintenance, warranty, and spare parts.

This will not only benefit competitors in the automotive industry, but consumers as well.

The MEC abolished restrictions tying warranty coverage to carrying maintenance works at the dealers’ workshop and its service centers.

This move by the MEC aligns with the Competition Protection and Anti-monopoly Committee's vision (a national committee under the MEC) “to promote economic competition and fight monopoly practices by taking the appropriate measures based on market research and available data concerning economic activity in the State of Qatar.”

The images below show the three areas in which the MEC aims to end monopoly, with more details about the processes and restrictions.
