The Moon Sighting Committee of the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs announced that Monday, May 6, 2019 will be the first day of the holy month of Ramadan which means Sunday, May 5 is the completion of the month of Shaaban.

This update came in a statement issued by the Committee after its meeting this evening at the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs, chaired by Dr Sheikh Thaqeel Al Shammari.

The Islamic calendar consists of 12 months and the ninth month is known as Ramadan. However, the dates change each year which depend on the moon sighting. The first day of Ramadan is announced as per the local visibility of the new moon.
