Martial art lessons for Filipinos

Pinoy Karate Taekwondo (PIKATA) Club Qatar will be offering martial arts lessons to the Filipino community starting on August 22, Friday at 4pm at the POLO-OWWA premises. PIKATA is a pioneering Filipino martial arts club in Qatar which aims to help those interested in learning martial arts. The club is under the Qatar Karate Taekwondo Federation and its instructors are experts in different areas in the art of self-defence. "Martial arts is very important as it fosters discipline in an individual both mentally and physically in addition to building self-confidence," said Darius Aranton, PIKATA President and 2nd Dan Taekwondo Master and member of World Taekwondo Federation (WTF). "Taekwondo and martial arts shotokan style will be the main module however other styles will also be introduced like combat karate, mixed martial arts, arnis and combat aikido," said Aranton. "We will be holding lessons every Thursday and Friday from 7pm to 9pm. Right now, we are catering to overseas Filipino workers and their children but we are open to the possibility of giving lessons to other nationalities in the future as well," he added. The event on Friday will also witness the induction of PIKATA officers and a martial arts demonstration. PIKATA elected new officials: Darius Aranton (President), Rolando Ladjahasan (VP-Internal), Lito Mercado(VP-External), Mona Liza Bela-Ong (Secretary), Ma Cristina Tanching-Marinas(Treasurer), Manny Camato&Caroline Alawis (PRO), Toto Laganzon (Auditor) and Allan Publico (Business Manager).
