A man has been sentenced to one-year imprisonment following his conviction of stealing QR1,100 from the bag of his female colleague. Both of them worked in a shop at a leading mall. The court ordered the accused to return the money to the plaintiff . The judge also ordered his immediate deportation after serving the sentence. According to the charge-sheet, the plaintiff told the police that she became suspicious after the disappearance of QR500 from her purse kept in the shop and she also lost the same amount after two days. She said that she doubted that the suspect was a Bangladeshi tailor who also worked in the shop. On August 23 last year, I told the suspect that I was going to the toilet and left the shop but kept a watch from a distance to see how he behaved. “I marked that no one else had entered the shop. When I searched my bag, I discovered that the QR100 I had kept in the bag was missing. When I confronted him, he pushed me aside and fled, never to return to the shop.” Explaining the penalty, the court said that the accused intended to deprive the victim of the money she owned without her consent. The court found the plai ntiff’s version coherent enough while convicting the accused. http://gulf-times.com/site/topics/article.asp?cu_no=2&item_no=304106&version=1&template_id=36&parent_id=16
