A major car accident that took place last week at the Khalifa Al Attiyah intersection is still under investigation and has been turned over to the Public Prosecution. The Public Prosecution is responsible for probing traffic accidents in which damage is more than QR.10,000.
Last week, an SUV swerved off the bridge at Doha’s Khalifa Al-Attiyah intersection and fell from a height of 10 metres on to the February 22 street underpass, just below the intersection. The driver - a father of a boy, 6, and a girl, 4 - jumped the red signal and was hit by a passing car, before it broke the barrier and fell from the bridge killing the girl, and severely injuring the wife who is undergoing treatment for her injuries. The father fractured his ribs and left hand and the boy suffered only minor injuries and is fine.
The General Directorate of Traffic is working in collaboration with Ashghal, Qatar's Public Works Authority, to determine why the barrier was not strong enough to withstand the collision of the car and will also investigate all other issues related to this accident (Source).
