The three-week long Food Fiesta 2011, organised by LuLu Hypermarket Group, began yesterday at LuLu Hypermarkets on D-Ring Road and in Al Gharafa. The event will culminate in a cookery contest on May 14. The festival was officially inaugurated at LuLu Hypermarket, D-Ring Road branch by Regional Director of LuLu Hypermarket Group Mohamed Althaf. Ali Bin Ali Group COO Nabil Murad and COO of Qatar National Import and Export Ahmed Khan also joined the LuLu Group official at the inauguration. The organisers said the complete planning for the various activities and promotions for the event has been finalised. The event is envisaged to introduce new concepts of promotion based on themes to create a festival mood throughout the period with the active participation of customers, said the organisers. The festival is mainly aimed at educating customers about different food habits and cooking styles prevailing internationally. Cooking lessons and demonstrations by leading chefs, insights into various cooking styles and ingredients of different cuisines are some of the activities in the food categories. Live demonstration on salad making organised by Delicio would be another attraction of the festival. A spate of competitions including eating competitions on pizza, banana, chocolates, ice creams, donuts, grilled chicken, noodles, and chili eating competition for men, juice drinking competition, drawing and quiz will be held all along during the festival period. D-Ring Road branch of the LuLu Hypermarket is the only venue for all competitions. Special counters and kiosks promoting exciting offers on major food items, free sampling and tasting, and raffle draws by LuLu and major suppliers etc are also set up. Suppliers namely Maggie, Shama and Al Areesh have organised promotions like scratch & win and lucky draws as a part of their sales promotion activities. Al Alali has offered hotel accommodation and to & fro air tickets for a couple to Italy as the prize for the winner of their Pasta Promotion draw. The festival would focus on almost all areas namely grocery, frozen foods, bakery, delicatessen, meat, dish, vegetables and household/domestic appliances etc, and attractive promotions have been organised to benefit the customer in terms of price and quality. It is believed that special promotions on meat, poultry, seafood, salads, rice n’ spice and ethnic foods from countries like Thailand, Philippines, Japan and Korea would constitute the soul of the promotion. A special promotion, Happy Hours, is organised daily between 6 and 10 pm where customers will get the chance to win amazing prizes based on the lucky turn of the wheel. One of the major attractions of Food Fiesta is the cookery contest for which entries have been invited from the general public. Out of the total entries received, the panel of judges will finalise and declare the list of contestants. Those selected would be required to prepare the dishes opted by them at home and bring it to LuLu Hypermarket for assessment by the connoisseurs. The contest is being held mainly under categories like meat, chicken, sea food, milk product and fruits carving.
