LuLu Hypermarket’s food festival begins today. The two-week festival was officially inaugurated by LuLu Hypermarket regional director Mohamed Althaf, general manager Mohamed Sainulabideen and operations manager Keith Smith at a cake-cutting ceremony yesterday. The food festival ends on May 11. This is the fifth year that LuLu Hypermarket is holding the food festival. Besides encouraging people to take part in the event, LuLu Hypermarket also aims at educating them about healthy eating. Major attractions this year include promotions on Thai fruits and seafood, the Rice N’ Spice festival, mango festival, cheese and “deli-cold” promotion, breakfast festival, British and Filipino cuisine, live cookery classes by eminent chefs and a cookery contest. Customers will also have the opportunity to win prizes in lucky draws under the ‘Happy hours for the customers’ and Maggi’s ‘Scratch & Win’ promotions. Under the ‘Happy hours for customers’, there will be a lucky draw every 30 minutes, during which the customer at the checkout counter whose number is drawn will be eligible for a gift hamper. This promotion takes place from 6.30pm throughout the festival days. Magic shows and balloon drops are also planned. An eating competition would be another major attraction of the festival. This will be held at the atrium at the customer service counter in the evening. In the cookery contest, customers can submit their recipes in various categories such as meat, chicken, seafood, rice, cheese, milk products and fruit carving. The contestants selected would be required to prepare the dishes, for which they submitted recipes, at home and bring them to LuLu Hypermarket for assessment. http://gulf-times.com/site/topics/article.asp?cu_no=2&item_no=287326&version=1&template_id=36&parent_id=16
