A 21-year-old man was remanded in custody yesterday after appearing in an English court charged with the manslaughter of a Qatari language student. George Austin, from Bermondsey in south London, is accused of the unlawful killing of Mohammed Al Majed, a 16-year-old English language student. Austin was remanded in custody following the brief preliminary hearing at Lewes Crown Court near the south coast. He is to appear before the same court on February 13 for a plea and case management hearing. Majed died of head injuries sustained from hitting the pavement following an altercation in the seaside town of Hastings on August 22. He died later in a London hospital. The teenager had been in Hastings for about five weeks, studying English at a language school. Austin was arrested on an aircraft which flew into Britain from Cyprus on November 20. He was charged the following day. http://thepeninsulaqatar.com/Display_news.asp?section=Local_News&subsection=Qatar+News&month=December2008&file=Local_News2008120641432.xml
