The event is being organised by the Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME)'s Agricultural Affairs Department.
Youssef Khalid al-Khulaifi, Agricultural Affairs Department director, highlighted the importance of the event - the first in the 2017-18 agricultural season. The festival is witnessing the participation of 26 farms, and more than 6 tonnes of local honey is expected to sell during the event.
Al-Khulaifi said that after the Mazrouah yard, the festival will continue at the Al Khor-Al Dhakira yard and then at the Al Wakrah yard.
The events aim at marketing the local honey products of Qatari farms and supporting them to compete with foreign products, while attracting the public to the yards in order to support the production of vegetables and fruits.
He said the Qatari honey-based products are "excellent in terms of quality and diversity", noting that several farms have doubled their production over the past few years with constant support from the MME. He added that this year's edition is distinguished by an increased production and interest from local farms compared to previous years, with the number of participating farms growing from six in the first edition to 26 this season.
On his part, Abdulrahman al-Sulaiti, the general superviser of agricultural product yards, said the goal of holding the events in different yards is to diversify products and provide consumers with greater choice, while also supporting local farms to diversify their production and techniques and develop the implemented mechanisms so as to compete with foreign products.
Al-Sulaiti added that the ministry supports different Qatari farms through various means.
The festival is an opportunity to introduce local honey projects and provide high-quality Qatari honey. (Source)
