One hundred and eighty!’ This exuberant cry instantly takes me back to my childhood and the UK game show Bullseye, where contestants competed in a darts challenge for the star prize of a speedboat or the runner up prize of a pint glass stuffed with pound notes. It’s not quite the same set up at Doha Darts League and there’s no speedboat on offer at the end of the night, but there’s definitely a lot of enthusiasm, a sense of fun and a hint of competitiveness. Elsa Catchpool has been league secretary of Doha Darts League for three years and a team player for four. She explains how she landed the role: ‘A friend’s husband was playing in the league and there was a shortage of ladies, so I joined. I’d never played darts in my life until then! A year later the lady who had run the league for nine years said she wanted to give it up, then I took it over.’
