Dr Mahmoud Jibril, who leads the delegation of Libya to the extraordinary Arab ministerial meeting after the resumption of his county’s membership in the Arab League, has hailed Qatar’s generous support for the Libyan revolution, as well as its initiative to provide $2.5bn for the Libyan National Transitional Council (NTC) before Eid Al Fitr. Dr Jibril, in his speech before the extraordinary meeting, chaired by the Sultanate of Oman, underscored the importance of Arab financial support for the transition in Libya in order to meet the requirements of the Libyan people, and ensure the services needed, saying that the shortage of services will lead to a political vacuum, a matter that will lead to a crisis of lack of confidence in the role of the Council. He pointed out that the legitimacy of the NTC had depended on the struggle against the regime of Colonel Muammar Gaddafi over the past six months, adding that its legitimacy is now based on its ability to meet the demands of the people and the provision of essential services. He also lauded the role of the Arab League in the Libyan revolution, expressing his appreciation and gratitude to the position taken by the League on March 12 in asking the UN Security Council to impose an air embargo on Libya. http://www.thepeninsulaqatar.com/qatar/162941-libya-rebel-chief-hails-qatar-support-.html
