His Excellency Chairman of the National Human Rights Committee (NHRC) Dr. Ali bin Smaikh Al Marri said that the committee will soon start taking legal action before the United Nations and international institutions regarding the Saudi violations and its politicisation of religious rituals, adding the legal procedures will also be taken before the European Parliament and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO).
His Excellency pointed out that there are no signs of positivity or hope that reflects the Saudi authorities' willingness to stop their violations and to put an end to the obstacles that threaten to deprive citizens and residents of Qatar of performing their religious rituals (Hajj and Umrah) for the third consecutive year.
This came during a meeting in Brussels between Dr. Al Marri and Jan Figel Special Envoy for the promotion of freedom of religion or belief outside the EU and EU Commissioner for Education, Culture and Youth.
Al Marri said that after more than 20 months since the blockade, Saudi has not taken any effective procedures to alleviate the obstacles that resulted in the politicisation of religious rituals and depriving the citizens and residents of Qatar of performing their religious rituals, Hajj and Umrah, during the past two years.
He said there are not positive indicators that show that the authorities of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia have any intentions to retreat from the intransigence and its defiance to the feelings of thousands of citizens and residents who were deprived of Hajj and Umrah, under the pretext of political dispute.
His Excellency provided an overview of the psychological and material damage caused by the Saudi authorities to pilgrims in Qatar, in addition to the financial losses suffered by Hajj and Umrah campaigns.
Al Marri said there the European Parliament and EU countries must bear their moral responsibilities and address the Saudi authorities regarding the violations of depriving pilgrims to perform their religious rituals. In addition to the need for the Saudi authorities to unconditionally respect the rights of Qatari citizens and residents and to alleviate all obstacles placed they face.
NHRC Chairman said the mechanisms allegedly established by the Saudi Arabian authorities to deal with the situation of victims affected by their violations remain misleading and ambiguous, lacking credibility and did not address the human rights and humanitarian situation of those affected. He said none of these establishments have communicated with the committee despite its efforts to reach out. (QNA)
