Qatar Foundation (QF) for Education, Science and Community Development will host its sixth Distinguished Lecture Series featuring renowned American scientist Professor Robert H Grubbs, winner of the 2005 Nobel Prize in chemistry.
Professor Grubbs is an expert in green chemistry (also called sustainable chemistry), a chemical philosophy that encourages the design of products and processes that reduce or eliminate the use and generation of hazardous substances. It differs from environmental chemistry, which is the chemistry of the natural environment, and of pollutant chemicals that occur in nature. In contrast, green chemistry seeks to reduce and prevent pollution at its source.
Titled ‘Sputnik, Chemistry and Metathesis’, the lecture will discuss current developments in green chemistry and its meaningful applications for the health and energy industries.
The lecture will be held at Education City January 20 at Texas A&M University in Qatar.
The lecture series is an ongoing programme, organised by Qatar Foundation research division, that invites world renowned scientists to Qatar to share their experiences with local researchers and explore collaboration with them. The lecture series forms part of Qatar Foundation’s mission to create a knowledge based society by introducing Qatar students, researchers and the public to world-class science and scientists.
