Lebanese Songstress Set to Hit the High Notes at Katara’s Amphitheatre

Magida El Roumi Returns to Qatar for an Exclusive Performance Doha, January 09, 2013: Katara, the Cultural Village proudly presents the multi award winning Arab vocalist, Magida El Roumi. Performing a collection of her best hits, the concert will take place at Katara’s Amphitheatre on Thursday 10th January at 8:00pm. El Roumi returns to Qatar after performing a duet with the international opera star, José Carreras in December 2006 at the 15th Annual Asian Games opening ceremony. Magida El Roumi is a Lebanese singer, who started her musical career in 1974 when she participated in the talent show, Studio El Fan on Télé Liban and won the gold medal for best female singer. Since her appearance on television at the age of 16, she became one of the most successful singers of the Arab world who then went on to become a UN Goodwill Ambassador. Dr. Khalid bin Ibrahim Al Sulaiti, General Manager of Katara said: “We are delighted to have Magida El Roumi perform at Katara’s Amphitheatre; her sounds have long filled the rooms of many Arab homes across the region. Magida is a legend in her own right and it is truly an honour to have her fill the Amphitheatre with her sensational melodies. “Katara continues to build cultural bridges by providing a platform for aspiring artists and world class performers, which contributes to the overall mission to educate and entertain,” he continued. Her extraordinary talents took her from Lebanon and the Arab States to the rest of the world, performing in Opera Houses across the United States, Europe and Australia. Following her success she was appointed Ambassadress for “The Food and Agriculture Organization of The United Nations,” bridging the links between the rich and poor. Hailed as a messenger of peace, El Roumi went on to establish several projects to help more than 800 million people in poverty around the world.
