Lawyer and legal counsel Ahmed Abdullah Al-Subaey has stressed that the Qatari law protects the privacy of individuals and prevents interference in the lives of others. It is a criminal offence to photograph an individual without prior permission or registration. He also pointed out in a statement to the Al Sharq news site that the filming of accidents is one of the most important crimes that violates privacy and is punishable by law in Qatar.

Taking photographs or clips in a public place with the intention of offending or defaming is punishable by up to two years' imprisonment and a fine of not more than QR 10,000 or one of the penalties.

Al-Subaey added:

"The prescribed penalty applies to anyone who took or transmits photographs or videos of an individual or individual in a public place through a device of any kind, with the intention of using them for abuse or defamation."

Regarding Article 333, which (amended according to Law no. 4 of 2017) and aimed at protecting the sanctity of personal life, Al-Subaey said:

"This article is very important as it preserves privacy because it explicitly states that the telephone calls of individuals and the transmission and diversion of such conversations, as well as the circulation of private videos, and other abusive behaviours, as well as the transmission of images or videos of incidents that cause psychological injury to the injured or the families of the deceased, where these amendments in 2017 were a deterrent to such offences," al-Subaihi said.

On the importance of protecting privacy in this era with the increasing use of social media, Al-Subaey said,

"With the increasing use of social media, awareness of this law has become very necessary, as some do some damage to others without knowledge, which does not protect them from legal accountability and the law certainly limits these violations."
"He shall be punished with a maximum of two years' imprisonment, a fine of not more than 10,000 riyals, or one of these penalties, anyone who has violated the privacy of individuals, without consent, without consent, by committing one of the following acts: the dissolution of a letter or a private telegram addressed to other individuals, or one of these penalties, anyone who has violated the privacy of individuals, without consent, without consent, by committing one of the following acts: the dissolution of a letter or a private telegram addressed to other individuals, or one of these penalties, anyone who has violated the privacy of individuals, without consenting without being satisfied with the following circumstances, by committing one of the following acts: the dissolution of a letter or a private telegram addressed to other individuals, or by hearing in a telephone call, a telephone conversation or a transfer. The same penalty as provided in the previous paragraph is punishable by: taking or transmitting photographs or videos of an individual or individual in a public place, through a device of any kind, with the intention of using them for abuse or defamation.
