Law on publications needs amendment, says Advisory Council 1/JUL/2009

The Advisory Council has called for amendments to the law governing publications to allow proper action against “irresponsible” writers and journalists. The Council, in its ordinary meeting on Monday, said amendments should me made in the law to attract more nationals to the field of media, noting that they would be able to serve the requirements of the society in a better manner compared to foreign journalists. The Council said Law No. 8 of 1979 should be revised since it could not cope with the developments in the country. The Council discussed a report by its media and culture committee that was assigned to discuss the issue of “free and responsible media.”
