Twitter in Qatar was abuzz last night with news of a meteor-like object spotted in the skies. Videos and pictures were finding their way around social media and people were making their own speculations about what the object was. It was initially reported that the object was a meteor.

Is it a bird? Is it a plane? Nope, turns out the fireball spotted in the sky was in fact a remnant from a Russian SL-4 rocket body re-entering the atmosphere. The Peninsula reported that this was confirmed in a tweet by the Qatar Astronomical Centre and that the re-entry was witnessed from a number of countries in the Middle East, including Qatar, Oman, and the UAE.
