Kulluna

Kulluna, a nationwide health and safety campaign involving various activities, has created widespread awareness in the country by reaching different segments of the society, says a senior official.

During the last six years, Kulluna has launched a number of campaigns addressing health and safety issues in the community. The related activities have taken many forms and all of them have reached thousands of students and other segments of the community, Dr Khalid Al Abdulnoor, Senior Consultant Emergency Medicine and Chairman of Kulluna for Health and Safety Program at Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) told The Peninsula.

Kulluna’s campaign’s ‘Keeping Children Safe’ creates awareness about keeping children safe from drowning, poisoning, falls, burns and scalds. ‘Child Passenger Safety Training’ promotes child safety, and other campaigns such as ‘Healthy Heart’ focus on promoting healthy lifestyle and Beat the Heat’ on the need of keeping safe in summer. Kulluna, is the health and safety initiative of Hamad HMC’s Hamad International Training Centre (HITC).

“We have been active with child safety and other programs of Kulluna. The ‘Keeping the Children Safe’ campaign is active particular in schools. Our team goes to schools and spread knowledge to students, teachers and parents. We directly interact with tens and thousands of school students every year. When you go to schools, the neighbouring schools get invited and from that alone sometimes 3000- 4000 students participate,” said Dr Al Abdulnoor.

Kulluna activities take many forms as its messages need to reach as wide audience as possible. Its road shows and awareness programs are held at different venues including at shopping malls, recreational venues, exhibitions and conferences. “We make every effort to reach out and send the message across,” said Dr Al Abdulnoor.

While, ‘Child Passenger Safety Training’ of Kulluna teaches people how to become child passenger safety technicians so that they can teach parents and caregivers how to choose and correctly install a car seat for their children. Its being held with Safe Kids Qatar, an initiative between HITC and Safe Kids Worldwide.

“Child Passenger Safety Training has been very successful, we have trained around 120 technicians to provide the resourses and expertise to educate the public and professions about how to use car seats safely,” said Dr Al Abdulnoor.

The word ‘Kulluna,’, in Arabic, means ‘all of us’ and it is being used for this campaign in the belief that everyone in Qatar can take action to improve health, well-being and safety for themselves, their families and the community in general. The campaign was launched in September 2012 and HMC has tied up with ConocoPhillips, Qatar and the US-based Safe Kids Worldwide in the drive, the first of its kind in the country.
