Katara welcomes back the Music and Dialogue Festival

World renowned Maestro Daniel Barenboim return to Doha with the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra As part of its commitment to reinforce its footprint as a cultural hub in Qatar, Katara the Cultural Village, hosts the Music and Dialogue Festival. The five day festival features a series of exclusive orchestra performances, a panel discussion with maestro Daniel Barenboim and a screening of “The Last Interview”, a film about the late Edward Said, co-founder of the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra (WEDO). Legendary maestro, Daniel Barenboim and WEDO will kick start the festival with a piano recital of Franz Schubert pieces on Monday 30th April, at 8:00pm in the Opera House, Building 16. The festival will continue on Tuesday 1st April with a recital of Franz Schubert and Robert Schumann by Daniel Barenboim and Rene Pape at 8:00pm at the Opera House, Building 16. Dr. Emad Sultan, Cultural Affairs Director said, “After the success of The Music and Dialogue last year, we are delighted to welcome back Maestro Daniel Barenboim and his team to Katara. Katara continues to provide a platform for world-class performers, which contributes to our overall mission to educate and entertain whilst building cultural bridges.” As part of the festival Daniel Barenboim and Mariam Said will participate in a discussion panel with Al Jazeera presenter, Nick Clark. The discussion will take place on May 2nd at 7:30pm, Georgetown University, Qatar Foundation. “The Last Interview”, a film about Edward Said will be screened on Thursday 3rd May at Qatar University. Following the screening Mariam Said will participate in a Q&A. Daniel Barenboim will conduct the Orchestra Concert I at the Opera House, Building 16 at 8:00pm featuring pieces by Mozart. The five day festival will come to a close with an exclusive performance of Orchestra Concert II, a recital of symphonies by Beethoven, Bottessini and Wagner performed by Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra and maestro Daniel Barenboim.
