As the Katara Ramadan Festival enters its third and final week, Katara yesterday announced the last chance for online votes for the Children Drawing Competition and a chance to collect more fact strips to win the Ramadan Cannon Competition. Winners of Katara’s surprise prizes will be announced on Thursday, the final day of the Festival. The Competitions are part of Katara’s first-ever Ramadan Festival. Hosted in three tents on the beachfront Esplanade, Al Oud, Al Misk and Al Rayhan, the Festival showcases a number of Qatari traditions and offers a variety of interactive cultural and arts workshops for its visitors. The Children’s Drawing Competition challenged young visitors of the Al Oud tent to show off their artistic talents under the theme of Qatar. Images of their creations were then posted on Katara’s Facebook page www.facebook.com/kataraculturalvillage where people can vote for their favourite drawings by ‘liking’ it online. Voting will close on Wednesday. The Katara Ramadan Canon located between Buildings 12 and 16 attracts eager children to learn about the Holy month of Ramadan. Each evening at 10pm the Cannon fires hundreds of candy parachutes with Ramadan-related factoids attached. Children are encouraged to collect as many strips as possible, giving them a greater chance of winning. The last day for collecting Ramadan factoid parachutes is August 23. Contestants are requested to deliver their strips for counting to the reception of Building 15 between 9am and 12noon or 9.30pm and 11pm on Wednesday. “Katara is dedicated to promoting Qatar’s culture and heritage; this year’s Ramadan Festival has been a great opportunity for us to share our treasured Islamic traditions with children and adults alike. There has been overwhelming interest from children who have been eager to take part in these competitions and we look forward to congratulating the winners at Thursday’s prize ceremony,” said Malika AlShraim, Public Relations Manager at Katara. Participants are requested to gather at Al Misk tent at 9pm on Thursday where there will be a prize distribution ceremony. The three participants will the highest number of fact-strips and Facebook likes will be presented with their surprise prizes. http://www.thepeninsulaqatar.com/qatar/162274-katara-makes-final-call-for-online-voting.html
